The only distillery still operating in Guyana, Demerara Distillers carries on, on the banks of the Demerara River, a rum tradition born in the 17th century. Its Diamond Reserve range brings together blends of Demerara rums.

I · The story

Three centuries of Demerara rum

The history of Demerara Distillers goes back more than 300 years, to the introduction of distilling in Guyana in 1670. In 1780, British Guiana had more than 300 distilleries, each identified by the marque of its estate. By 1942, only nine remained, Diamond among them.

In 1983, Guyana Distilleries Limited and Diamond Liquors Limited merged to form Demerara Distillers Limited. The stills, equipment and expertise of the closed distilleries were brought together at the Diamond Distillery; in 1998, the last remaining estates transferred their stills and expertise there.

The Diamond Distillery

Demerara Distillers owns and operates the only distillery still operating in Guyana, the Diamond Distillery, at Plantation Diamond on the East Bank of the Demerara River. The production of Demerara rum has been at the heart of its business for three centuries.

Diamond Reserve rums are made there with stills and expertise inherited from this history. The house presents them as a celebration of its stills and of the terroir, and of how they influence the spirit.

The Diamond Reserve range

Diamond Reserve is a collection of blended Demerara rums produced on the banks of the Demerara River. They show the fruity, intensely aromatic notes typical of Demerara rums, with generous flavour on the palate, and suit cocktails as well as sipping.
