I · The story

A family story in Langenlois

For the Nastls, the emphasis has always been on the word family. First mentioned in 1656, the estate is today run by Renate and Günter Nastl and their children Christian, Alexander and Petra, who together carry on the family's winegrowing story. Their village, Langenlois, is Austria's largest wine-growing municipality and lies in the Kamp Valley, in Lower Austria.

Günter and his son Christian manage the vineyards together. The cellar is Christian's domain: after time spent in Germany, the United States and New Zealand, he returned to the estate with these experiences, which today shape his style. The family also runs a Heuriger, the Austrian winegrower's tavern, where Günter welcomes visitors from near and far.

II · The terroirs

The Rieden of Langenlois

The wines come from renowned Langenlois plots, the “Rieden”: Steinmassl, Kittmannsberg, Spiegel, Käferberg and Liss. According to the family, it is these distinctive soils that shape the character of Langenlois wines, from the fruity VelKam line to the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling typical of the Kamptal, through to cuvées from a single site.

North of Langenlois, the Klassik Cuvée comes from loess covered with brown soils and gravel, a deep and fertile soil. The Grüner Veltliner Langenlois, for its part, grows on primary rock, granite and schist soils.

III · The craft

A gravity-flow cellar, a sustainable vineyard

The cellar is set over three levels: the grapes are moved and pressed by gravity alone, with great care. A delicate touch and time to mature form, according to the family, the foundation of its fresh, fruity wines. The Klassik Cuvée is harvested by hand, with sorting in the vineyard.

Respect for resources has always been part of the family's work. The estate has been certified “Nachhaltig Austria” (Austrian sustainable winegrowing) since 2016, and its wines are produced according to the rules of AMA-controlled integrated production and of Austrian sustainable production controlled by LACON.
