Tasting notes

Very deep ruby colour with violet highlights. Intense aromas of ripe wild fruit and violet. Full palate, with clear notes of ripe cherry and blackberry and a pleasant sweetness. It can evolve for up to 50 years in bottle, with a peak 25 to 30 years after the vintage. In Refrontolo, the production of this Marzemino passito dates back to 1400; Mozart mentions it in his opera Don Giovanni as "that excellent Marzemino".

Food pairings

Chocolate, fruit cakes, aged cheeses, or on its own as a meditation wine. Serve between 14 and 16 °C.

Winemaking and ageing
Harvested in early September; the grapes are sorted and then set to dry. Drawn off the skins, the wine completes its fermentation and matures in barrique, then in bottle.
